Physical wellness is the ability to maintain a quality of life that allows you to get the most out of your daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress. physical wellness recognizes that our daily habits and behaviors have an impact on our overall health, well being and quality of life. Wellness incorporates all of the eight dimensions shown on the cover and back of this booklet. each dimension of wellness can affect our overall quality of life, because wellness directly relates to how long we live (longevity) and how well we live (quality of life). Simply put, wellness is an intentional, active process of trying to improve one's overall quality of life. to best optimize wellness and happiness, we are encouraged to focus on the eight dimensions of wellness emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social and spiritual. Wellness encompasses 8 mutually interdependent dimensions: physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, vocational, financial, and environmental (table 1) . attention must be given to all the dimensions, as neglect of any one over time will adversely affect the others, and ultimately one’s health, well being, and quality of life. Wellness is defined as a facet of health that goes beyond the absence of disease. another way to think about it, is that wellness refers to a positive state (being well) and illness refers to a negative state (being ill). wellness is inclusive, self directed, and on going. the 8 dimensions of wellness can serve as a guide for living a positive.
